simple card

Sunflower Cheer

Hello all my crafty friends,

Todays cards is one of my favorites. why? You may ask! I absolutely fricken LOVE SUNFLOWERS. I love sunflowers so much that I have them tattooed on my body and plan to get more.

I decided to take time today to make a card surrounding the theme of sending cheer. This world has so much strife that cheer is what we all really need right now!

What you need:

  • 3 pieces of 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” White card stock
  • die cutting machine
  • Nesting dies
  • Scissors
  • Flower stamp set
  • Markers
  • Small sentiment
  • Double sided foam tape
  • Glue runner tape
  • A2 size card base
  • Black ink
  • Dry embossing folder
  • Rubber embossing mat

Keep in mind:

You can use any products you have in stock and still achieve a fabulous card. I will mention the specific product I used throughout the tutorial. I do not have affiliation nor do I get paid to advertise for any of the products I use. I am just a big fan.

Use two dies that leave enough room between for a border

Using two nesting dies from Simon Says Stamps Stitched Rectangles I die cut two rectangular card stock pieces. One smaller than the other.

Placing the two rectangular card stock pieces in a honey comb dry embossing folder, I ran them through my Sizzix Big Shot.

Next was my absolute favorite part! Stamping and coloring.

Using my Gina K Jet Black Amalgam ink, I stamped several images from the Avery Elle Sunflowers stamp set ( pictured below ) I initially planned to use all the images but decided to keep the card simple and only used the larger of the sunflowers,

Once the stamping was done, I used Y38 to color the shadowy parts of my sunflower.

Using Y17 I overlapped my marker strokes to color the midtown of the sunflower.

Using Y35 I colored in the lightest area of my sunflower

Using my darkest shade of brown ( E39 ) I follow the lines of the middle of the flower

Next using E37 I overlapped the lightest color

Finally I filled in the white spaces using E35 and also filled in the circle twig wreath with the same color.

Finish up the stamped images by cutting them out leaving a small white border.

Next I used the smallest of my rectangle stitch dies and die cut a white piece of card stock that I colored in with Y35 to match the sunflower.

On top of the colored in small square I stamped the Sending Cheer sentiment from the sunflower stamp set.

Finally I placed together the card. I used double sided foam tape on the largest embossed stitched rectangle . I placed the smaller embossed stitched rectangle on top of the larger embossed rectangle using glue runner tape. Once these embossed rectangles are together I placed them directly on top of a 4 1/4” x 51/2” piece of white card stock.

On top of the stitched embossed rectangles I glued down the twig wreath and leaves and popped the sunflower in the middle on top of some double sided foam tape. Finally I placed the sentiment strip on top directly in the middle using two pieces of double sided foam tape stacked together.

The final result

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial as much as I did and may we all have some cheer in our lives to look forward to.

Keep smiling my crafty friends! If you have something you’d like a tutorial on or have questions feel free to comment below!
